Musical Taste Video of the Day: Banjo/Musical Saw Zelda Medley by Frontier Ruckus

So, I went to college with a few of the members of folk-rock band Frontier Ruckus and I have to say, I’m not at all surprised to see them showing their geek credentials. Check out this excellent medley of songs from The Legend of Zelda, primarily performed on banjo and musical saw.

Musical Taste: Jonathan Coulton is “officially living on Main Street in Crazy Town.”

So, if you click over to the Billboard Heatseekers chart right now, you might notice a familiar name hanging out in the number one spot. Geek singer-songwriter Jonathan Coulton has claimed the number one spot with his album Artificial Heart, as well as charting at #125 in the Top 200, 26 on Rock, 16 on […]

Musical Taste vs Trailer Watch: Fight for Your Right, Revisited

I…don’t really know what to say. This has an absurdly huge cast, is a sequel for a 25 year old music video, and could be truly amazing, or a spectacular miss. Either way, color me intrigued. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the red-band trailer for Fight for Your Right, Revisited. Fight for Your Right, […]

Musical Taste: Dropkick Murphys – Going Out in Style

Dropkick Murphys – Going Out in Style St. Patricks Day is next week, so it seems only appropriate that in building up to a week of blackouts and pretending to be Irish, those staples of Boston Irish Punk, Dropkick Murphys would release a new whiskey and folklore infused record. And with their first in four […]

Lincoln’s Video of the Day: The Black Keys – Howlin’ for You

The Black Keys continue to make great music videos. Their latest, the exploitation-ish film trailer for their song “Howlin’ for You” is probably the best thing to explode onto the internet this week. Check it out. Probably NSFW though. Get your own valid XHTML YouTube embed code

Musical Taste: Daft Punk, Kid Cudi and Tom Waits

Recently, we discussed the upcoming Daft Punk-scored Tron: Legacy. Well, it appears that we’ll have to wait a little longer before we get to hear their dark, dancey tunes. According to Pitchfork, the soundtrack has been pushed back from its original November 22 release date to December 7. However, if you head over to the […]

Musical Taste Link of the Day: Tron: Legacy Soundtrack getting closer

So. Tron: Legacy. Ever since it was announced that genius electronica musicians Daft Punk were doing the soundtrack, we’ve dealt with a steady stream of fake music attributed to them. It looks like that time is over. While the website doesn’t do much yet (except play a fantastic bit of the score) there is a […]

Musical Taste Video of the Day: This Gigantic Robot Kills by MC Lars

I grew up in the 90s, and accordingly, have a soft spot for ska music. You know, you start with a typical punk song and then all of a sudden, the horns kick in and everyone is skanking (the dance, not the….well I don’t even know how you’d verb the other thing). So when I […]

Musical Taste: Scott Pilgrim vs the World OST Review

Scott Pilgrim vs the World Original Soundtrack Reviewing a soundtrack is tough, particularly if you haven’t seen the movie yet. You have a collection of tracks that, if you’re not listening to a musical, don’t seem to mesh initially. However, Edgar Wright, Beck, and Nigel Godrich have put together a damn fine collection of tunes […]

Kara’s Video of the Day: An Awful Lot of Running

Who wishes they could be the Doctor’s companion?  (Me, for a start.)  The appropriately-named band Chameleon Circuit likes the idea, too, and they’ve written a song about it.  The tune has a great indie Brit-rock feel to it, and a fun video courtesy of Ed Stockham, a.k.a. smilinglimpet. The vid focuses almost exclusively on David […]
