Musical Taste Video of the Day: Banjo/Musical Saw Zelda Medley by Frontier Ruckus

So, I went to college with a few of the members of folk-rock band Frontier Ruckus and I have to say, I’m not at all surprised to see them showing their geek credentials. Check out this excellent medley of songs from The Legend of Zelda, primarily performed on banjo and musical saw.

Musical Taste: The Hunger Games OST to go the Twilight route?

Say what you will about the Twilight films (I like to say they’re terrible, but that’s just me), but you have to admit that whoever put together the soundtrack albums to them knew what they were doing. Each album had a few mainstream artists and just enough exclusive indie tracks to get the Pitchfork crowd […]

Geeking Out About Gift Guide 2011: Musical Taste

So it’s the last week before we’re forced into close proximity with our families. The snow is falling, the parking lots are icy, and the malls are a hellscape of screaming infants, cacophonous carols and pushy sale signs. Which is why it’s time for another musical rendition of the GOA Gift Guide. There is a […]

Musical Taste’s Best Thing Ever: Girl Talk film Girl Walk: All Day

Last year, famed mash-up DJ, Girl Talk, released his latest album, the awesome All Day. Starting with Black Sabbath and Ludacris bleeding together, the album never lets up for it’s entire running time and promptly crashed his label’s server from the sheer volume of people trying to download it. Now, a full length film is […]

Musical Taste Review: Jonathan Coulton – Artificial Heart

Jonathan Coulton – Artificial Heart Jonathan Coulton has been around for a while now. Most people (including myself) first became aware of him with the end credits song for 2007’s Portal, though he had previously released multiple works, his 2006 project Thing A Week resulting in some of his best known songs. On his eighth […]

Musical Taste’s Best Thing Ever: OK Go featuring the Muppets – The Muppet Show Theme Song

I stayed up late last night, hoping this would be posted before I crashed. Alas, I had to wait until this morning for the awesomeness that is this music video, which manages to be both Muppet-acular and gives a lot of nods to previous OK Go music videos. Also, there is a theremin. From the […]

Musical Taste video of the day: Spike Jonze directs Jay-Z and Kanye West in Otis

So it’s likely at this point that you’ve heard about the new Jay-Z/Kanye West collaboration The Throne and their debut album, Watch the Throne. Whether it’s the controversy around the rappers odd retail decisions or the combined ego of those involved or the fact that honestly, the album is pretty damn good, they’re everywhere this […]

Musical Taste: MTV gets back to dealing with music…sort of

MTV is trying, slightly, to get back to their roots. While their relaunch of Beavis & Butthead has gotten most of the press, Pitchfork reports that the network will be bringing back one of it’s indie rock shows, 120 Minutes. Debuting at 1 AM July 30 on MTV2 (a more than slightly unfortunate time-slot), the […]

Musical Taste: Pomplamoose cover the ‘Angry Birds’ theme

I love Pomplamoose. Their videosongs are adorable, brilliant and fun. This latest one is pretty darn funny as well. I haven’t played Angry Birds myself, but I hear it’s a tiny bit popular.
