Joss Whedon to work on S.H.I.E.L.D television series

Well, Disney and Marvel certainly don’t let grass grow under their feet.

According to Deadline, ABC Studios has put in an order for a live-action pilot about S.H.I.E.L.D, the spy organization portrayed in the various Avengers films. Making things even a little more nerdtastic, Avengers-director Joss Whedon has signed on to write, and potentially direct, the pilot. Whedon earlier this month signed a deal with Disney to direct the sequel to his blockbuster hit.

What makes this so special? Whedon will be working with his writing partners of many years, his brother Jed and Maurissa Tancharoen.

No news on what the series will entail, but you can bet it will employ snappy dialogue, unique characters and at least one minor-but-likeable character will die in an unexpected manner.
