Tom Hanks is In the Garden of Beasts

Tom Hanks is always worth watching. An excellent actor, he can shine in even the most banal material. However, his new film shouldn’t have any issues of that sort.

THR reports that Hanks, through his company Playtone, along with Universal, have optioned In the Garden of Beasts by bestselling author Erik Larson to be developed into a feature. The film would follow the US Ambassador to Germany in 1933 and his daughter Martha as they navigated Hitler’s Germany and became aware of the brutality and horror that surrounded them.

This would Larson’s second work optioned. His bestselling serial-killer history, The Devil in the White City, is currently under development with Leonardo DiCaprio.

I’ve been waiting for an H. H. Holmes film since reading Rick Geary’s “The Beast of Chicago” back before Devil in the White City came out.

I liked Larsen’s book but felt he took many narrative liberties to make the story more compelling. There were things that nobody could have know that were slipped in.
