Quentin Tarantino’s next film, Django Unchained to star Will Smith, Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson?

Quentin Tarantino is a fan of the revenge genre. L0oking at the director’s history, it’s easy to see that he wants to side with the underdog and grant them vindication in horrible scenarios. It looks like he’ll be doing it again.

Tarantino’s next film, Django Unchained, will tell the story of an escaped slave looking to reunite with his wife who is still in slave. And he’ll be teaming up with a German bounty hunter in the process to take down a plantation owner. Violently, I’m sure.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the role of the bounty hunter was written with Christoph Waltz in mind, and Samuel L. Jackson is apparently looking at a role as the house slave of the plantation owner. But Tarantino’s first choice for the titular character is a bit of a surprise, with reports surfacing that Will Smith is his first choice and has been sent the script.

However, as THR points out, Smith is careful and this script has some hot button issues, with racism and racial slurs abounding. Nothing is sure at this point, but the prospect is an intriguing one. The movie is aiming to begin shooting this fall.
