Earth Day Trailer Watch: Another Earth and Melancholia

For Earth Day, I’m bringing you a pair of trailers, one about the end of the world, the other about it’s future.

First we have Lars von Trier’s newest, Melancholia. A planet is on a collision course with the Earth, and nothing can be done. And, being von Trier, truly weird things happen.

Melancholia will be released on May 26, 2011.

The second, Another Earth directed by first-timer Mike Cahill, is about the approach of a duplicate Earth and a young woman’s tragic mistake on the eve of a trip to it.

Another Earth will be released on July 22, 2011.

Another Earth: I KNOW that the focus of the movie is not the sci-fi aspect, but I find myself bugged by it. Another Earth-sized planet that close to Earth (without f-ing things up down here) is so outrageous it’ll probably turn out to be a dream of the protagonist; as she’s sitting and dying in her smashed car. I’ll bet you a nickel that’s it.
