Darren Aronofsky drops out of The Wolverine

What might have been…

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Darren Aronofsky has left the director’s seat for The Wolverine. The film was not yet greenlit, but there were tentative plans to begin filming soon. However, as a fair portion of it was to be shot overseas in Japan, the director reportedly was “not comfortable being away from (his) family for that length of time.”

From the press release:

I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again.

For their part, Fox has stated that while disappointed he won’t be directing, they respect his reasons, and will be “regrouping and moving forward aggressively.”
