Trailer Watch: X-Men: First Class

With a slow burn, the trailer for X-Men: First Class has arrived.

X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

The dynamic between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) is well established by this, and some tantalizing glimpses and hints of storyline make this one to look forward to. I personally dig the retro and fantastic gold and blue costumes we glimpse. Matthew Vaughn may have hit this one out of the park.

X-Men: First Class is in theaters June 3, 2011.

Same basic comment as with the new Superman movie post*. I didn’t even watch the last X-Men. I’m still kind of pissed for how dumb and rather boring Rouge’s whole deal was in the first film.

Now, if they decided to do a Captain Britain or Longshot movie, THAT would be worth seeing.

*this will also apply to anything with the words “Spiderman” and “reboot” in it.
