Trailer Watch: The Conspirator

While Robert Redford hasn’t had much luck directing films of late (Lions for Lambs was his last and was pretty much panned), the trailer for his latest has arrived and it feels a bit like 24 or Law and Order in the 19th century. While this may make the movie fun to watch, I’m pretty sure it isn’t what Redford was going for. Watch the first trailer for The Conspirator below, and judge for yourself.

The Conspirator is a period drama based on true events following the assassination of President Lincoln. Robin Wright Penn will play Mary Surratt, the only woman among a group charged with conspiring to kill the president. James McAvoy will play Frederick Aiken, an idealistic young war hero who reluctantly defends Surratt and in the process comes to believe she is innocent.

The Conspirator hits theaters on April 15, 2011.
