Christopher Nolan brings on Anne Hathaway as Catwoman(?) and Tom Hardy as Bane for The Dark Knight Rises

Let the speculation begin.

Today, over at the LA Times’ Hero Complex, it was announced that Anne Hathaway has signed on to play Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming (and final) Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. Also being announced is that Tom Hardy, already confirmed, will be playing the villain Bane, he of the venom and luchador mask.

Nolan had this to say:

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story. I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.

As for the storyline, the folks over at the Playlist have an interesting take, suspecting that this might be the Talia Al-Ghul/Bane “Legacy” storyline, though it’s worth noting that Nolan is making a much more realistic Batman series and we might not end up seeing a venomized Bane at all. But this is all speculation. One thing worth noting is that it’s not mentioned if Hathaway will be playing Catwoman, just Selina Kyle.

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20, 2012.

  • Here I sit, likely the only person who is not looking forward to this. I thought The Dark Knight was a total waste of my time.
