Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer to direct adaptation of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas

One of the most seemingly unfilmable novels of the last few years is coming to the screen with a fair amount of talent behind the camera.

According to Entertainment Weekly (via The Playlist), Natalie Portman announced in her recent mostly Black Swan-related interview, that the Wachowskis were teaming up with Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run, a segment in Paris Je Taime) to direct an adaptation of David Mitchell’s 2004 genre-bender Cloud Atlas. The novel (which this writer actually just finished reading about two weeks ago) is a fantastic story stretching over six different main storylines, each with their own protagonist and spanning thousands of years. Though there is no concrete start date, Portman confirms that she will likely have a minor role in the film.
