Writers Guild of America disqualifies some of the best scripts of the year
The WGA awards are a barometer for the Oscars. However, they have some harsh restrictions.
The requirement that scripts be produced under WGA supervision and they’re formally submitted has disqualified several of the biggest films of the year. According to Variety, The King’s Speech, Toy Story 3, Winter’s Bone, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Another Year, The Ghost Writer, Biutiful, Blue Valentine and Made in Dagenham are out of the running due to not meeting these qualifications.
The ballots were mailed out Monday for the awards ceremony which will be held February 5. And while the requirements are tough and disqualified some top films, the organizers have no intention of backing down.
“We hope that the rules help persuade nonmembers to become members,” said John Wells, WGA West President.
The full list of nominees, including Black Swan, 127 Hours, Get Low, and The Social Network can be found here.
