“Top Gear” on “60 Minutes”

Pretty sure if Kroft had offered him a book deal, he woulda talked.

This past series, Jeremy Clarkson was thrilled that A-list celebs like Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz were showing up on their “little car show” to do a lap around their track.  It’s hard to tell just how aware they’ve been that they’re actually big news in the US — not only are they a hit on BBC America, but “Top Gear” is one of the most torrented shows on the Internet.

If they don’t get it by now, though, they’re just plain unobservant, as the news program “60 Minutes” gave “Top Gear” a fine bit of coverage this past Sunday.

Describing the show to non-viewers as “part reality show, part buddy movie, part Monty Python,” Steve Kroft covered “Top Gear” top-to-bottom, including some great bits of interview with the boys and the show’s producer.  He also got to sit in on a lap with The Stig — and his attempts at conversation had pretty much the expected result.

If you missed it on TV, “60 Minutes” has put the entirety of the piece (embedding disabled by request) up on their YouTube channel for your viewing pleasure.
