Musical Taste: Daft Punk, Kid Cudi and Tom Waits
Recently, we discussed the upcoming Daft Punk-scored Tron: Legacy. Well, it appears that we’ll have to wait a little longer before we get to hear their dark, dancey tunes. According to Pitchfork, the soundtrack has been pushed back from its original November 22 release date to December 7. However, if you head over to the soundtrack’s website and type in ‘derezzed’ you can get a hint of more of the music from the score.- Tom Waits is finally getting his due, maybe. The musician, who has been producing music since 1973, has been nominated for entry into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This is significant, partially because you’re eligible for induction 25 years after you begin making music, meaning it has taken the RNRHOF 12 years to get around to nominating Waits.
- In other Waits news, the collaboration he did with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band is coming out in a limited edition vinyl. The project, which was originally inspired by an old 78, ended with him recording two of the “earliest known Mardi Gras chants.” So, in honor of this, they’re releasing vinyl copies of the album as well as a Preservation Hall inspired record player to play it on. Check out a picture of the player over at Pitchfork.
- Finally, to end the day we have a strange bit of inspired musical silliness. Rap-wunderkind Kid Cudi’s new album Man on the Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager drops on November 9, and here is our first video for the album, with a Jimi Hendrix motif and including guest spots from Kanye West, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Clark Duke.
