Trailer Watch Double Feature: Burke & Hare and The Tempest plus bonus trailer!

I’m a big Simon Pegg fan. I’ve enjoyed pretty much everything he’s done, from Spaced to Mission: Impossible 3. So when I heard that he was teaming up with Andy Serkis for period serial killer comedy Burke & Hare, I was pretty excited. But then: nothing. That’s usually a bad sign.

Finally, we have our first look at the film and it looks like it could be a lot of fun. I’m reminded slightly of Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd, at least with the look of London. For those who are unfamiliar, Burke & Hare tells the story of a series of murders that, according to Wikipedia, “were attributed to Irish immigrants William Burke and William Hare, who sold the corpses of their 17 victims to provide material for dissection.”

Gross. Check it out.

Burke & Hare is directed by John Landis (Coming to America, Animal House) and is out October 29, 2010 in the UK.

Second today we have our first look at director Julie Taymor’s (Across the Universe, upcoming Broadway show Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark) take on Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The film is slightly different from the play, as instead of Prospero, we have Helen Mirren playing Prospera whose ” journey spirals through vengeance to forgiveness as she reigns over a magical island, cares for her young daughter, Miranda, and unleashes her powers against shipwrecked enemies in this exciting, masterly mix of romance, tragicomedy and the supernatural.”

The Tempest also stars Alfred Molina, Chris Cooper, Alan Cumming and Russell Brand and hits theaters on December 10, 2010.

Finally, just for giggles and because it is continuing to look more and more awesome, here is the feature-length trailer for the Coen Brothers’ True Grit, with a truly appropriate Johnny Cash accompaniment.

True Grit is in theaters on Christmas Day.
