“Top Gear” hits NC and VA, doesn’t come and get me

For this outing the boys chose a Ferrari 458 Italia, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. So ... not on a budget this time, I guess.

So Clarkson, May, and Hammond had a really bad time in the States back during their first road trip — well, even if parts of it were good, I don’t imagine being shot at by rednecks is something they’re going to recall fondly in their old age.  Their second time through, they had to lie about the nature of the show in order to get into the country on their existing visas.  After all that nonsense, my fellow Virginians and I decided that basically they were Doing It Wrong™ and they shoulda come to our neck of the woods if they wanted a fun drive.

Someone heard us.

Last week, Autoblog reported that the “Top Gear” crew were currently making their way through the Blue Ridge area of North Carolina with three slick exotic numbers that were decidedly nothing like their first outing’s selection.

Not long after, Jim’s Garage spotted them at the Virginia International Raceway just outside Danville (a pleasant afternoon’s drive west of this blogger), setting up for a day’s filming and likely a Series of Challenges.  Here the situation was spotted as — and I’m wording this so my grandfather can understand it — the tall mean one in the Mercedes, the little runty one in the Porsche, and that other one with the funny-looking hair in the Ferrari.

One can only speculate as to what the lads were up to in this area of the country … and how much wildlife is left after the fact.  Suffice to say that this native Virginian is hoping they found our area a bit more welcoming.
