Voice cast for Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie pretty much what you’d expect

Tim Burton is returning to the world of stop-motion animation with an adaptation of his own short film, Frankenweenie. And, in typical Burton fashion, he’s casting regulars.

According to Deadline, Burton has cast Winona Ryder, Martin Landau, Catherine O’Hara and Martin Short in roles in the film. The movie, as mentioned before, will be an adaptation of his short in which a young boy reanimates the family dog after it gets killed by a car. Landau previously worked with Burton on Ed Wood and won an Oscar for his performance as Bela Lugosi. Ryder and Burton worked together on both Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice, in which O’Hara appeared as well, while Short appeared in Mars Attacks.

Perhaps the only surprising thing here is that Burton hasn’t cast Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham-Carter in roles yet, but there’s still plenty of time.

Watch the original Frankenweenie below the cut. The new version hits theaters in 2012.
