Sandra Bullock & Tom Hanks set for Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks and a critically acclaimed novel. Who’s ready for awards season?

Indiewire reports that the two have signed on to star in Stephen Daldry’s (The Reader, Billy Elliot) adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. The film, to be put out jointly by Paramount and Warner Bros, tells the story of a ” nine-year-old tambourine-playing vegan/scientist/artist/pacifist who is searching for a lock to match a key left behind by his father, who died in the North tower on 9/11.” Hanks and Bullock will play the boy’s parents. The film will also apparently cover stories told by his grandparents, recounting their lives during World War 2.

The talent involved in the film is slightly staggering, including screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) and producer Scott Rudin (The Social Network, True Grit, No Country for Old Men).

The deals are not yet finalized.
