Quick Cuts: Horror anthology film The Gathering, Casey Affleck starring in a different F-Word than you’d expect, and other stories
- A large cast of horror film greats may be joining together in new anthology piece, The Gathering. Producers Mark Heidelberger (Flintown Kids, Harsh Times) and Jesse Felsot are meeting with Linda Blair (The Exorcist) and Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street) with hopes of them joining the cast which includes Udo Kier (Blade), Brian O’Halloran (Clerks) and Kiowa Gordon (Twilight). The picture’s framing story would be The Storytellers, “set on Halloween night with the devil bringing together Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, H.P. Lovecraft and Mary Shelley in a competition to tell the most frightening untold tale with the winner receiving the opportunity to leave purgatory forever.” (Source: Variety)
- Casey Affleck (The Killer Inside Me) is in talks to star in Fox’s The F-Word, in this situation referring to friendship. Though not based on your favorite swear, the romantic comedy is based on the play Cigars and Toothpaste written by T.J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi. The story would follow basic romantic comedy fare with a “young man who falls for a young woman but hides his attraction for her until she can admit to reciprocal feelings.” (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)
- Adam McKay (The Other Guys) will be directing the film version of Watchmen-taken-to-the-extreme superhero comic The Boys. The film, to be an R-rated Superhero satire focusing on the titular CIA superhero watchdog group, won’t be quite as blood-spattered as the comic, according to producer Neil Moritz (The Green Hornet). As of right now there’s no news when this will go into production, but personally I hope it wouldn’t get made without Simon Pegg on board, as the lead is based on him. (Source: The Playlist.com)
- Mark Ruffalo is officially on board to play the Hulk in The Avengers. The actor appeared on stage at Comic Con along with his cast-mates, introduced by Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Downey Jr. Other cast members include Scarlett Johansson (The Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Chris Evans (Captain America). Edward Norton was not brought back due to him, according to Marvel Head Kevin Feige, not thriving “as part of an ensemble.” Ouch. (Source: THR’s Heat Vision Blog)
