Dino De Laurentiis picks up rights to James Rollins’ Sigma Force

In an exclusive at THR’s Risky Business Blog, it’s reported that Martha and Dino De Laurentiis (U-571, Hannibal) have picked up the rights to the Sigma Force novels written by James Rollins. The novels follow “a division of the U.S. Department of Defense’s DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) program housed beneath the Smithsonian in D.C. Staffed by a collection of ‘killer scientists’ (adventurous scientists paired with military operatives), the Force investigates and secures threatening scientific information through counter-terrorism, research and covert ops.”

The novels started in 2004 with Sandstorm, and the newest, The Devil Colony, will hit in August,  but the films are looking less at adaptation, more at branching out. De Laurentiis is aiming the films to cover new material, hopefully turning into a franchise.

The film adaptation is being overseen by Lorenzo de Maio (Hannibal Rising).
