Quick Cuts: Ghost Rider sequel, Sam Raimi walking the Yellow Brick Road, and other stories
- Nicholas Cage’s head may be on fire again soon, which confuses the ‘Nicholas Cage Hair Theory of Film’ (with thanks to Tom Brazelton). He is reportedly in talks to reprise his role as Johnny Blaze in the Ghost Rider sequel, with Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank), who are also in talks, directing. There are no plot details but David Goyer wrote a story, which may be rewritten before hitting the big screen. (Source: THR’s Heat Vision Blog)
- Nicole Kidman and Nicholas Cage are teaming up for an action filled Trespass. The film, to be released through Millenium Films, will be directed by Joel Schumacher. The story “centers on a husband and wife taken hostage by four brutal perpetrators seeking easy cash. Complications ensue amid the unexpected discovery of betrayal and deception.” (Source: Variety)
- Sam Raimi will be directing a Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz: The Great and Powerful for Disney. The film will follow the character before he became the wizard seen in the classic film, a circus huckster who is taken to Oz via tornado (apparently the only way to get there). The movie is being written with Robert Downey Jr. in mind for the titular role, but he is not officially on board yet. (Source: Deadline Hollywood)
- So we’ll be seeing what Guillermo Del Toro left Middle Earth for soon. The director stated on the official fan site that he would announce his upcoming production plans at San Diego comic-con, which will be held July 21-July 25. On the slate? A possible Van Helsing movie for Universal. Personally, I’m pulling for the At the Mountains of Madness film he’s wanted to do for years. (Source: THR’s Heat Vision Blog)
