PSN Update: Good solid PSP games get their due
June has arrived, bringing with it a shiny new Playstation Store update. The Spring Fling sale is gone, but fear not, gentle readers, you can still escape paying full price for downloadable games. Tuesday marked the launch of the “PSP Favorites” line, a collection of solid PSP games priced to win at $9.99.
On the PS3 end, I would honestly feel guilty calling Soldner-X2 the highlight once again, even thought it’s being released in a bundle with the original for $17.99. With the lone shooter out of the running, though, the field is clear for Tecmo Bowl Throwback to be the MVP this week. A HD remake of the 1991 NES classic, Tecmo Super Bowl, Throwback contains all the same rules and arcade gameplay of the original with 32 customizable teams and online multiplayer. Also of note, Jonathan Coulton’s (of Still Alive fame) “The Future Soon” is now available as a Rock Band Network download for $1.99.
There’s something for everyone with free space on their PSP, as the Favorites line is all kinds of great. Not all games are newly reduced, but everything under this label can be had for under $10. Having played them, I can heartily recommend Patapon 2, Hot Shots Golf Open Tee, and PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe. Getting in on the price drop loving are a new batch of Greatest Hits, now $19.99. Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance: Retribution, and Secret Agent Clank are all solid offerings, averaging above 70′s on Metacritic.
