Colin Farrell to join Fright Night in lead vampire role

Well, it looks like Colin Farrell is giving major studio films another try.

THR’s Heat Vision blog reports that Farrell has signed on to play a major role in Disney’s remake of 1985 horror-comedy Fright Night. The movie will be following the same basic premise of the original: a new neighbor moves in next door to a teen who becomes convinced that the new arrival is a vampire, played by Farrell. Naturally, no one believes him. Think Rear Window meets The Lost Boys.

Farrell, who hasn’t worked for a major studio since 2008’s Pride and Glory, joins Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), who will be playing the teenage protagonist, and Toni Collette (The United States of Tara), who will play Yelchin’s mother. The movie will be directed by Craig Gillespie, which is interesting to me, since he directed the brilliant Lars and the Real Girl.
