BAFTA Television Award Nominees Announced

The UK’s own version of the Emmys have announced their nominees today, and the list this year is an interesting spread.  For a start, Julia Walters has received a double nomination in the Best Actress category, for her roles in both Mo and A Short Stay in Switzerland. Veteran actors Kenneth Branagh, John Hurt, and Helena Bonham Carter will also be up for awards.

Many fan favorites have made the Comedy and Entertainment categories, including Stephen Fry for his work on “QI,” Jo Brand in “Getting On,” and David Mitchell in “Peep Show.”  Long-standing soaps “Coronation Street” and “EastEnders” will (not surprisingly) be facing off in the Continuing Drama category, alongside “Casualty” and “The Bill.”  The online game “Primeval Evolved” is up for a New Media award.  As for the International category?  The United States is being represented by “Mad Men,” “Nurse Jackie,” “True Blood,” and … “Family Guy.”  One of these things is not like the others, indeed.

The complete list of nominations is now available online at BAFTA.org.  The awards will be presented on Sunday, June 6, hosted by Graham Norton.
