De Niro joining The Dark Fields

Robert Deniro looks to be trying something a little different. The actor will be starring opposite Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) in the upcoming thriller The Dark Fields.

According to Variety, De Niro will be playing a financial mogul who is pursuing Cooper’s character, a down and out New York writer. After getting his hands on a new designer drug that makes one smarter, Cooper gains success, but soon discovers the drug has dangerous side effects.

The film is based on a novel by Alan Glynn, and will be directed by Neil Burger (Director, The Illusionist) from a screenplay by producer Leslie Dixon.

The film, which begins shooting this May in Philadelphia, is slated for a 2011 release from Relativity Media and Universal.
