Trailer Watch: A Nightmare on Elm Street teaser

It’s pretty well-known by readers of Multiplex and Movie Make-out that I am not a fan of the horror movie genre — but as a teenager, I did like the Nightmare on Elm Street series — or at least 1, 3, 4, and 5, which had a lot more imagination than the average slasher flick.

This teaser trailer for producer Michael Bay’s A Nightmare on Elm Street redo (directed by veteran music video director Samuel Bayer) has appeared on MySpace, and… well, unless they’re holding most of their dream-world cards for the next trailer or the actual movie, it’s everything I disliked about Nightmare 2: the imagination (and clever low-budget special effects along with it) are nowhere to be seen.

It doesn’t help that Jackie Earle Haley’s Freddy Krueger talks kind of oddly, too. I’m having a hard time picturing this version with the same mix of menace and wit of the original, sounding as he does like a developmentally disabled child.

We shall see.…

    This remake feels so unnecessary.

I agree with Mike D and Thomas McC.

Insert standard “Hollywood Please Make An Original Film and Stop With The Remakes and Re-Imaginings” rant here.
