The Internet is Wrong—Again: Rose McGowan is fine

Despite many movie news sites picking up on FOX News’ Pop Tarts column reporting that Rose McGowan, star of the upcoming Red Sonja film was seriously injured during filming, bringing production to a standtill.

She’s even quoted as saying when she “recently” spoke with the Tarts: “I had wrist and elbow surgery and they took part of my elbow out. I had really bad nerve damage from doing stunts — I do a lot of my own stunts.… I could no longer use my arm, but now I can hold a fork and drive so we’re working our way up. It’ll probably be another six months of rehab, but It’s the price you pay for being really limber and being able to do back flips!”

Ms. McGowan herself corrected the misinformation by tweeting: “News is wrong! No injuries stopped the filming on Red Sonja!Film didn’t start.Stunt on Planet Terror&eventual arm/hand surgery delayed”

Translated into more than 140 characters: Red Sonja hasn’t even started filming yet. The injury she had sustained was on the set of Planet Terror. (You can see video of McGowan talking about her surgery from back in March (“recently”?) over at Access Hollywood.) Honestly, my Twitterese isn’t quite good enough to tell whether or not the injury was the reason filming on Sonja has been delayed, but six months from March would be right about now, so… maybe?

A tweet from McGowan just last month clarified earlier inaccurate rumors about the production: namely that she had pulled out of the film entirely. She had said: “To clarify press reports: Red Sonja is delayed. I pulled out of doing it in ’09. Not permanently. Hopefully will follow [the upcoming] Conan [the Barbarian reboot]. I am still contracted to do Red Sonja. Hopefully Filming in ’10 not ’09.”
