Nikolaj Arcel jumps into Deadman

DeadmanDC continues its develop feature films for its lesser-known characters even as its major heroes sit around wondering what the hell is going on, as a big-screen tale of Boston Brand, a.k.a. Deadman, finds its director: Nikolaj Arcel, co-writer and director of The Island of Lost Souls.

Variety has confirmed the news, which was first broken by Bloody Disgusting:

Deadman is the ghost of a murdered circus acrobat who has the power to possess the living in order to seek out his killer as well as to help the innocent. The character first appeared in 1967 and was created by writerArnold Drake and artist Carmine Infantino.

The costume might be a little weird for this sort of thing, and the motif of dead people jumping into other peoples’ bodies may be a little played out now after movies like Just Like Heaven or Soul Man, but there’s definitely a spooky supernatural thriller to be made there.

Guillermo del Toro, Don Murphy and Susan Montford are producing. I vote for Doug Jones as Deadman!

Wonderful. Really. A shame about the timing of the announcement, but this could be incredibly cool.

I'm totally ok with this. Always thought Deadman was a great character.
