Geoff Johns is co-writing and producing The Flash

In another “state of DC Comics’s film slate” article yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that comics vet and current Flash: Reborn writer Geoff Johns will be writing the/a treatment for the still-in-development Flash film. Dan Mazeau — who is currently working on a Johnny Quest movie — will write the screenplay from Johns’s treatment. Last fall, Johns had been hired to act as a consultants for its DC Comics superhero properties along with Grant Morrison and Marv Wolfman; the other two writers’ projects are still in the “early stages,” so Warner kept mum about those.

The article also breaks down DC’s current film projects, which include:

The Losers – an action-adventure starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans, which begins principal photography this week.

Jonah Hex
– a supernatural Western starring Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich, which recently wrapped.

Green Lantern – directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds.

Red – starring Bruce Willis, which… well, you can just read the article from yesterday.

Warner is apparently “taking pitches” on Adam Strange and Aquaman, which would be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way. And while the article also mentions Bizarro Superman (by Galaxy Quest writers David Howard and Robert Gordon); a sequel to Constantine; not one but two concurrent Green Arrow projects — one an origin story and the other David Goyer’s long-in-development prison-set film, Super Max); and Shazam, which still has Get Smart director Pete Segal attached — I wouldn’t hold my breath for any of those just yet.

Obviously, another Batman film is waiting for Christopher Nolan to finish Inception, but Superman is sort of in limbo and currently without a star — although the recent ruling (if left uncontested) requires Warner to begin production on a Superman film by 2011, or else they’re open to further litigation from the Siegels. (Whether they’re willing to take that chance is up in the air, of course.)

Remember, Kids! For every Hellboy, Iron Man and Batman Begins, you get a Batman forever, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Electra, Ang Lee's Hulk, Punisher, Punisher: War Zone AND The Spirit.

Thankfully, there will only ever be one Howard The Duck.

but, I think I may be the only one who liked The Flash TV show…

I loved the shit out of the Flash TV show, even though it was actually a terrible, terrible show — and I knew it, even then.
