Trailer Watch: Nick Hornby's An Education

A trailer for the Nick Hornby-scripted An Education has hit the internet, courtesy Sony Pictures Classics. Here’s the official logline:

In the post-war, pre-Beatles London suburbs, a bright schoolgirl (Carey Mulligan; best known to US audiences as Sally Hawkins in the “Blink” episode of Dr. Who) is torn between studying for a place at Oxford and the more exciting alternative offered to her by a charismatic older man (Peter Sarsgaard).

An Education opens in New York and Los Angeles on October 9th. The film was directed by Lone Scherfig and also stars Alfred Molina, Emma Thompson, Rosamund Pike and Dominic Cooper (who replaced Orlando Bloom). The film has already won some accolades at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival (the World Cinema Audience Award: Dramatic and the World Cinema Cinematography Award: Dramatic), and the October release bodes well for a bit of Oscar-baiting.
