Will Arnett, Michael Shannon join Jonah Hex

arnettAccording to The Hollywood Reporter, Will Arnett and Michael Shannon (Oscar-nominated for his supporting role in Revolutionary Road) are putting on the big belt buckles for director Jimmy Hayward’s Jonah Hex, featuring the DC Comics Western character with a big honkin’ scar down his face.

Arnett and Shannon join Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex, John Malkovich and Megan Fox in the production, which tells the story of Hex tracking a “voodoo practitioner (Malkovich) who wants to raise an army of the undead to liberate the South.”

Arnett will play a Union soldier who enlists Hex and is blindsided by the dirty fighting style of his enemies. The role is not inherently comic.

Shannon plays Doc Cross Williams, the bizarre ringleader of a brutal gladiator circus event. The character might appear in sequels.

Sequels for the film that hasn’t even been filmed yet? Well, at least they’re being optimistic about it; I’m guessing they included that sentence because Legendary Pictures has an option on him for any future installments in the franchise.

Jonah Hex is currently slated for an August 6, 2010, release.
