Scott Pilgrim vs. Superman and the Human Torch, sorta

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the latest casting additions to Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and it’s shaping up to be something pretty awesome.

For those of you who haven’t read the four-volume (with volume 5, Scott Pilgrim vs. the Universe, coming out soon) graphic novel series, the Scott Pilgrim chronicles the absurd life of a guy (played by Michael Cera in the film) who falls in love, only to be told by his new crush Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Live Free or Die Hard) that in order for them to be together, he has to defeat her seven evil exes. Where the series will be six volumes in all, the movie is a “done-in-one” version of the same story.

The most notable additions are Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Zack and Miri Make a Porno) and Chris Evans (the Human Torch from the Fantastic Four movies, Push) have signed on to play two of Ramona’s exes.

CHUD provides a “handy guide” to the rest of the announced cast so far, some of which gets slightly spoilery (if you haven’t read the comics), so we’ll just let you mosey over there for a bit if you want to know who’s playing whom, but for the sake of mentioning them, they include Kieran Culkin (The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys); film newcomer Ellen Wong; Brie Larson (“The United States of Tara”); Mae Whitman (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”); Satya Bhabha (Swordswallowers and Thin Men); Anna Kendrick (Twilight, Rocket Science); Mark Webber (The Good Life); Alison Pill (Milk); Johnny Simmons (Hotel for Dogs); and Aubrey Plaza (the upcoming Apatow/Sandler flick, Funny People).

UPDATED (2/19): Dark Horizons has compiled some photos director Edgar Wright has put up on his MySpace page, including some photos of the cast — and the news/rumor Jason Schwartzman is almost certainly playing Gideon Gordon Graves, the 7th and final evil boyfriend.
