Trailer Watch: Wolverine official trailer

If you saw The Day the Earth Stood Still over the past weekend or if you’re a philistine and watched the bootleg version that leaked onto the internet recently, you’ve already seen this, but Tsotsi director Gavin Hood’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine trailer is finally, officially, online, and it’s looks pretty damned good — a far sight better than that shitfest X-Men: The Last Stand, that’s for sure.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine opens May 1 and stars Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Taylor Kitsch (Gambit), Dominic Monaghan (Beak), Lynn Collins (Silver Fox), and Danny Huston (filling in for X-2: X-Men United‘s Brian Cox as a young William Stryker).

In related news, Batman Begins and Blade writer David Goyer recently told Superhero Hype that 20th Century Fox has his planned X-Men Origins: Magneto film on hold, pending the success or failure of this Wolvie film… which just seems odd, because a young Magneto movie would have few to none of the established stars and so be a far bigger risk than taking arguably the most popular element from the existing X-franchise (that would be Hugh Jackman) and building an entire film around it.…

I couldn’t have been the only one to make a gleeful sound upon seeing Ryan Reynolds on screen spinning katanas around could I?

I hope this movie is good, if only so we can have a full length Deadpool film.

(that helicopter jump looked a bit goofy though)

Aw, I thought the helicopter jump was sweet.

But yes, I’m not actually all that familiar with Deadpool, but a wisecrackin’ action movie with Ryan Reynolds would be awesome. Him and Jessica Biel were the only good things about Blade 3 (and her only because she’s hot).

I wonder if they’re going to make Ryan Reynolds hideous like Deadpool in the comics? An important part of his character is the fact that his healing factor and cancer have hideously scarred him.

Not that I’m a purist, I’m just curious. There are few things more awesome than Van Wilder with swords.

I’ve heard both good and bad rumours about Deadpool’s appearance. Mostly I hear that he won’t get uglified until late in the film…but another rumor I’ve heard has Deadpool with swords springing from his arms a la Baraka from Mortal Kombat. Also Hugh Jackman came out recently (Dec 12) and had this to say about Deadpool:

“…Actually some fans might be pissed off but that’s ok. I think they’ll understand why we did it. We took some creative licenses with him.”

    I fear this.

PS: Gordon, you are 100% correct that Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel’s hotness were the two redeeming qualities about Blade 3. Even Parker Posey was only so-so.

Seeing this trailer made paying to see The Spirit almost worth it.
