Trailer Watch: Michael Rappaport is Special
How did I miss this?!
When mild-mannered comic book nerd Les Franken (Michael Rappaport) signs up for an experimental drug study for a new anti-depressant, he begins to develop special powers: the ability to levitate, telepathy, and the ability to walk through walls.…
Faced with the dilemma of how best to utilize his new “powers,” the answer seems obvious to Les. He puts together a homemade superhero suit and hits the streets to fight crime and protect the world from the forces of evil.
Surveillance video soon exposes Les and his actions to the public via television news and therefore brings him to the attention of the businessmen developing the drug. Worried about the bad publicity Les is bringing to their new anti-depressant, they attempt to put an end to his superhero antics before too much damage is done. However, Les sees the men from the drug company as his evil arch nemeses—”The Suits”—men who want him to join them in their evil plan to use “Special” to create an army of unstoppable assassins. Les refuses to play ball.
The film festival hit Special premiered in the UK two years ago (it’s already out on DVD there, of course), but will be hitting Video-On-Demand in the States tomorrow (a.k.a. November 12) before a limited theatrical run (New York and LA only) on November 21. Catch the trailer in higher resolution over at Apple.

Wow. This is an odd coincidence.
My friend shows up in French class today, turns to me and says, “I just watched the saddest movie ever last night.”
10,000,000,000 points if you can guess what movie it was.

No bet: It’s pretty obvious from the trailer that’s what’s going on.
