Quote of the day: "Yes, we can" get The Dark Knight an Oscar

[The part where the bombs are on the ferries] speaks to the innate goodness of human behavior. And let’s remember that Oscar ballots are due next January 12, just a week before Barack Obama is inaugurated. It’s safe to say most Hollywood types will also see that event as an example of innate human goodness. All of this only helps The Dark Knight‘s chances [at winning the Best Picture award], don’t you think?

That’s only bit of a stretch.

I’d love to see this movie break down yet another barrier and prove that you don’t have to play retarded or foreign in a period tear-jerker to win an Oscar. There is definitely bias against “genre movies”.

Frankly, I don’t see it. Best Sound, Best Whatever, but I doubt even a nod for Ledger. A pity nod was a possibility, but by Jan. 12, the memory will be, “Boy Heath Ledger was scary as the Joker, wasn’t he?”

@Masked Vigilante: I doubt it’ll happen. I think the Academy believes nerds and geeks were appeased by the Return of the King major wins and will bypass those kinds of films for Top 5 category Oscar nominations for at least another 10 years.

Exactly. I forgot about ROTK, but yeah, that only makes it LESS likely that we’ll see that happen again any time soon.
