Trailer Watch: Dreamworks's Monsters vs. Aliens trailer

The first trailer for Dreamworks’s Monsters vs. Aliens is online now, and I’m happy to say it looks really fun — closer to the terrific Kung Fu Panda than (ugh) Shrek, but riffing on 1950s B sci-fi movies, of course, not kung fu or fairy tales.

MvsA is, of course, the first “true” 3D animated movie in that the 3D effect is created during the production process, not generated afterwards from two-dimensional footage. The film stars Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Will Arnett, Hugh Laurie, Reese Witherspoon, Kiefer Sutherland, Rainn Wilson, and Stephen Colbert. (Awesome voice cast, right?) It opens on March 27, 2009.

That’s an animated film I can get behind. Has a Hellboy ring to it, kind of.

…I actually read “Rainn Wilson” as being Rain (Bi), the Korean pop star, since the name’s followed by Stephen Colbert and the “Colbert Report” Colbert character hates Rain. *eyes cross*

The movie looks amazing. It screams “The Incredibles” only with monsters and aliens and “Mars Attacks!” thrown in. I’ll be in line for this one.

I’m not overly fond of the 3-D bit, but otherwise, Monsters VS Aliens, here I come!
