Trailer Watch: Fanboys (updated)

If you saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno this weekend, you’ve seen this, but the long, long, long-delayed Star Wars-based comedy Fanboys is set to arrive in theaters on February 9, 2009.

Fanboys tells the story of a group of friends (Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler, Jay Baruchel, and Kristin Bell) who plot to break into Skywalker Ranch so that their terminally ill friend can see Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Attack of the Clones before he dies. Downer, huh? Well, after some reshoots and a whole lot of bitching from people who’ve never seen either version, apparently the theatrical version is something of a hybrid of the original version and the cancer-plotline-free version commissioned by the Weinsteins earlier this year.

Best of both worlds or disjointed bastard project? We’ll never know, so I don’t really care. I’m not sure how this new trailer will play to non-Star Wars nerds, but I think it’s very, very funny. Check it out, and mark your calendars.

P.S. In case you’ve seriously never heard of this movie before, yes, Kristin Bell wears a slave Leia outfit.

UPDATE (11/9): Apparently Fanboys has gotten shifted yet again, to Wednesday, November 26, 2008.
