McGregor, Spacey and Bridges may Stare at Goats

Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges are in negotiations to star opposite George Clooney in the feature The Men Who Stare at Goats, a non-fiction book by Jon Ronson about the “the secret New Age unit within the US Army called the First Earth Battalion.” The book was also the basis for the first part of Ronson’s TV three-parter, Crazy Rulers of the World.

McGregor is set to play the central role of “Bob Wilton, a desperate reporter who stumbles upon the story of a lifetime when he meets Lyn Cassady (Clooney), who claims to be a former secret U.S. military psychic soldier who was re-activated post-9/11.”

Goats chronicles the two men’s travels through Iraq and offers glimpses into the supposedly real secret Army unit tasked with creating soldiers with paranormal powers.

Bridges will play Bill Django, the founder of the psychic soldier program and Lyn’s mentor. Spacey will play Larry Hooper, a former psychic soldier who is running a prison camp in Iraq.

Although it concerns me that “Lyn Cassady” and “Bob Wilton” both appear to be fictional creations, which will undermine the most frightening aspect of the story — that this shit is supposedly real, the fact that Peter Straughan’s script topped the 2007 Brit List of best unproduced screenplays gives me a bit of calm.

Director Grant Heslov (who previously directed Clooney’s “Unscripted” and co-wrote Good Night, and Good Luck with Clooney). As always, for more information on this project, click through to the related post!
