Trailer Watch: Confessions of a Shopaholic

Smoking hot Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers, Hot Rod) takes a turn in a leading role in this big screen adaptation of the best-selling chick lit series, Confessions of a Shopaholic, which centers on around 25 year old Rebecca Bloomwood, a girl with a spending problem and a multi-millionaire suitor (Hugh Dancy).

Although the film looks to be as morally reprephensible as Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada combined, the girls will probably eat it up. (And I’m saying this as someone who loves the shit out of terrible melodramas like Gossip Girl, mind you.) Fisher stole scene after scene in Wedding Crashers, but her comedic chops don’t look like they’ll help too much playing the same cookie-cutter vapid bitch that top-lines these kinds of movies. Still, I hope it’ll do well, so she can star in more movies that I actually want to see.

John Goodman and Joan Cusack co-star as her parents, somehow. Confessions of a Shopaholic comes out on February 13, 2009. If nothing else, all the boys dragged to it on Valentine’s Day will be able to stare at Ms. Fisher for an hour and a half without fear of condemnation.

Oh, God. I hate book series like those because it plays into so many feminine insecurities. Why doesn’t someone make a movie out of Venus Envy, huh?
