Trailer Watch: Real Time

Jay Baruchel (Tropic Thunder, Undeclared) and Randy Quaid star in the upcoming Real Time, a dark indie comedy about a gambling addict, Andy, and Reuban, the hitman sent to kill him. When the Reuban decides to give Andy an hour to tie up any lose ends, the latter “chooses to spend his hour looking for a hooker, seeking revenge on a former boss and trying to find his old Playdough barber shop toy at Grandma’s. But as we move closer to the deadline, we see there is more to Andy than we first thought and Reuban turns out to have a secret or two of his own.” And, yeah, it all unfolds in real time, or something close to it, anyway.

From the looks of the trailer, it doesn’t seem like Andy is going to get that one last chance, or that Reuban will find that shred of humanity left in him, and I’ll applaud the screenwriters if that’s the case. It’s an interesting premise, and one that deserves to be followed through with, not copped out on.

Real Time premiered at Slamdance earlier this year, but is still “coming soon” to theaters. Watch it in high definition over at Apple.

Just a short notice that you made a little mix-up there: Andy is the gambler and Reuban the hitman …

Wow. A movie where I could actually take Randy Quaid seriously? What’s that like?
