Singer, Actor, Voice Actor Isaac Hayes Dead at 65
Right on the heels of Bernie Mac’s death comes news of the death of Isaac Hayes, the man responsible for the theme song to Shaft, one of 1970s most renowned blaxploitation films. Hayes was found dead at his home today, unresponsive near a treadmill, according to the Associated Press story. The immediate cause of his death is currently unknown.
“Theme from Shaft,” with Hayes’ unmistakable baritone voice telling everyone all about “the cat that won’t cop out / When there’s danger all about,” set the tone for that movie and won the Academy Award in 1972 for “Best Original Song.” After some career ups and downs, which included bankruptcy and losing future royalties on his already published records, Hayes returned to the spotlight as the voice of Chef in TV’s “South Park” before he gave up the role due to his religious beliefs. He will truly be missed.

It’s too bad this had to happen, as death is always sad. I never did agree with his leaving south park for religious reasons (seeing that he insulted or made fun of everything else), but he was talented and funny while still around.
