Gambit, Deadpool and Wraith join Wolverine cast (updated)

Some other sites have been throwing around the addition of Gambit (Taylor Kitsch of Friday Night Lights) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) to the cast of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine film, which is already shooting under the watch of director Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, Rendition). But Variety is the first… ahem… reliable news site to confirmed these — and they’ve added Wraith to the mix, set to be played by Black Eyed Peas frontman in his first film role. This is in addition to Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber), a returning (from X-Men 2) Col. Stryker (Danny Huston) and Silver Fox (Lynn Collins), who were previously announced.

Superhero Hype!‘s (in my opinion unreliable) unnamed source mentions that Kitsch has been signed to a three-picture deal. Which three pictures is sending some people into speculation overdrive about a Wolverine trilogy (Hood has mentioned a possible Wolverine 2, but I think trilogy talk is just way too premature; obviously, if it does well, there will be a sequel, but in my book, until a movie is greenlit, it’s not happening), but we don’t know anything for sure — yet.

Anyway, haven’t we already had a Wolverine trilogy? They were called X-Men 1, 2 and 3.

UPDATE (2/21): Aaaand it looks like Dominic Monaghan (Lost, LOTR) may have joined up to play Blackwing (a.k.a. Beak from Grant Morrison’s New X-Men run), according to Just Jared. It’s from an anonymous source, but as far as exclusives go, this one’s kind of pathetic, so I don’t know what anybody would make that shit up. (Kidding. Sort of.)
