Trailer Watch: Street Kings, Frontrunners, Mister Foe, Nerdcore Rising

The trailer for Street Kings (formerly The Night Watchman) has arrived, at Yahoo! Movies. The cop drama is directed by David Ayer (Harsh Times), who co-wrote the screenplay with novelist James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential), and stars Keanu Reeves (The Matrix trilogy) and Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) as cops searching for the killer of Reeves’ partner. So: derivative plot — but, the execution looks promising. Hugh Laurie (House, MD), Chris Evans (Fantastic 4, Sunshine), and Common (American Gangser) co-star. The film is rated R for violence and "pervasive language." I always get a kick out of seeing "pervasive language" on an MPAA notice.

UPDATED: /film has a good round-up of eight films currently playing at the SXSW film festival. The stand-outs to me are Frontrunners, a documentary about the campaigns for student body president at Stuyvesant, "probably the most prestigious public high school in the country"; Mister Foe (released in Europe late last year as Hallam Foe), an Irish drama starring Jamie Bell (Billy Elliott, Jumper), Sophia Myles (Art School Confidential), Claire Forlani , and Ciarán Hinds; and Nerdcore Rising, a documentary about nerdcore rap.

Comment about your RSS feed: Short posts like these should show up entirely in the RSS feed and not get cut of at “cops searching for the killer […]”

Ah, whoops. I hadn’t noticed the syndication feeds setting in WordPress. Fixed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
